45 days divide us from the 5th edition of the International Dub Gathering (IDG), the most important dub festival of Southern Europe, organised by Rototom Sunsplash and Dub Academy.
The novelty for this year is the change of location which is held again in Catalonia, this time in the Mas del Pladels Catalans (Tarragona). The festival dates wil be from the 2nd of April until the 4th and you can get your tickets here for only 95 euros (full 3 days pass).
This year for the first time the IDG will have in its line up 10 sounds systems some of them in Spain for the first time such as the French Young Veteran Sound
System, Indy Boca Sound System and from the Sasha Steppa Sound System from the UK.
The most anticipated returns will undoubtedly be that of OBF Sound System, which this
time, in addition to offering a session with the inseparable Charlie P, Mr. Wilson and Junior Roy continuing with the infallible Blackboard Jungle Sound System, Wandem Sound System accompanied by The Hornsmen Section.
For the Spanish scene, South Vibes Sound System from Malaga debuts in the IDG,
together with the Catalans Arise Sound System and the event’s host Greenlight Sound
System with Awa Fall and Brother Culture. The tenth sound will be the launch of the Rototom Sound System, another of the surprises at the fifth edition of IDG.
As we have become accustomed with the IDG, its line-up combines living legends in dub and the sound system history, together with current stars and new protagonists that arise every year internationally. In the front line, the return of Jah Shaka, an essential figure of the global sound system scene, together with veteran singer Pablo Gad, who both share the commitment. Also present are two icons of Notting Hill Carnival, Aba Shanti-I and Channel One; what’s more the singer Queen Omega, from Trinidad and Tobago.
Far from being the only incentives in the line-up, the IDG presents a new edition of the
exclusive "Game of Dubs", where 3 prolific producers measure up one by one. This time the protagonists will be Iration Steppas with Dennis Rootikal, Dub Judah with Keety Roots and Roberto Sanchez with Benjammin.
Another of the exclusive shows that IDG has accustomed
its festival goers to is the so-called "Omega Frequency", which unites up to 7 women in a unique performance. Captained by the Italian producer Sista Habesha, the singers Saralène, Sista Livity, Poetikah, Sista Marlou and Amelia Harmony, in addition to Sanga Mama Africa, will stake their claim to the their rightful space in a scene where an ever growing female presence exists.
